Multimedia Video, film, sound, and radio -- the media of the millennium -- are in abundance in Milton's Performing Arts experiences. Students have many opportunities to write, act in, direct, edit, and produce programs. The centerpiece of this experience is "The Moving Image" course, which introduces students to the fundamentals of video production. Conceptualization, screenplay preparation, production techniques, and editing are practiced in a series of short projects that emphasize creative self-expression, effective communication, and concern for craft. Students produce short videos (animation, narrative, music video, persuasive, drama, comedy) as they trace the history and development of film and television from 1898 to the present. WMAR, Milton's radio station, is the most recent addition to the program.
In addition, the Audiovisual Center supports teaching and learning with a myriad of technical and program resources. Greeley AV Auditorium, viewing rooms, and a video production studio are available for class projects and production-related activities. A 5,000 title audiovisual library is complemented by a reference section and on-line searching for rental programs. A large inventory of recorders, cameras, and projectors are circulated to the campus for production and presentations. A video-conferencing laboratory provides for off-site connections. The AV Crew, a student service organization, helps manage the Center and runs weekend movies, including the annual all-night Movie Marathon.
