Research Help
Members of the Cox Library staff provide one-on-one personal help from 8:20 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday; Friday 8:20 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
We encourage you to fill out a Help Sheet -- available from the person on duty -- when you need more help than we have been able to give you in a short time. State what you need and when you can return to discuss your research needs.
We also encourage you to make an appointment to discuss your project with a librarian. Be prepared to discuss:
1. What is the project you are working on?
2. What have you already done?
3. What do you see as the help you need now?
4. How much time is there for this research?
Circulation
Books may be checked out for three weeks, and may be renewed if no one is waiting for them. For the sake of others looking for books, please be sure to check out books so that the catalog accurately reflects what is on the shelf.
The library does not charge fines for overdue books. However, if a book is lost, the borrower must pay a replacement fee.
Faculty members often place books on reserve at the circulation desk for in library use only.
Reference books, reserve materials and periodicals do not circulate. They must remain in the library at all times.
Borrowing materials from other libraries
If you need books or articles that you cannot find at Cox Library, ask the person on duty for help in finding these materials at other libraries.
Day students and faculty can check the catalog of their local public library and put a hold on a book with the bar code on the back of their public library card.
Boarding students are eligible to get a public library card from the Milton Public Library, which is a one block walk from Cox Library. They can then request books be sent to that library. With the Milton Public Library card boarders may obtain a BPL (Boston Public Library) card.
Faculty (and students who have faculty approval) may obtain periodical articles not available in the library or on the electronic network. You will need to provide the library staff with a citation.
